I asked Kim if it was OK to answer the call from my dad. She nodded. “Hi Joe! The kids tell me you’re on a date (Guilty pleasure #1). [in the background Sheila yells 'Who's the other woman?' laughing]” The nice things is that we don’t go on dates with other people, we go on dates with our spouse. Isn’t that nice? He went on to tell me about an idea of his. I politely played along, but I really wanted to be with my wife.
You see, we snuck into the Family History Center after hours (Guilty Pleasure #3). We played with the new FamilySearch.org. Usually we’re supposed to go to the Family History Center in our Ward when it’s OPEN. However, I am a Ward Leader, so we took liberties. What a neat date! Kim and her friend were talking and she suggested we go on a date to the Family History Center. Kim’s been interested in doing genealogy lately. It’s nice! I already have a lot of work done, but lots need to be corrected, combined, merged and otherwise cleaned up. So this is a nice time for both of us to get our act together. I have to start out with declaring myself as the contributor for a few of the names already in the system. That takes a few weeks for FamilySearch to get that request filled. Next, I have to define who is who in my line and make sure it gets cleaned up. This is a big task. I did, however, find a record in the US Census from 1880. This may be a long lost link in the Smith line. I’m excited to follow up on it. I wish to emphasize to all in our ward…the Spirit of Elijah is brooding over this area. Our Family History Center has been well organized and prepared. The center is now ready to take the influx of patrons in an historic way. The Farmington Ward can be proud of our little jewel. Thank you Sister Godbout for your amazing work. If you’re ever in this area, make sure you visit the FHC. The consultants and the Director will get you well on your way.
Now, about our date. We went to dinner (Guilty Pleasure #2). The Homestead was our choice. It is such a wonderful place. Read about the last time Kim and I went to a restaurant in Farmington. It was a wonderful dinner, but we had to pull it out of them. Here at the Homestead, all we had to do was find out what’s on the menu. Their menu had changed since the last time we were there. That wasn’t a surprise, because they often do that. They had some of their usual dishes and those are always a sure bet. However, another sure bet is how daring, brave, exciting, courageous, bold and creative they are. Each dish I have had is delectable, balanced (taste, that is), and never a disappointment. Tonight I chose Mahi-Mahi fish, with a strawberry and pineapple salsa on top. The fish was on a bed of large white beans (I wish I could remember the name of them, but it started with a G and she said it was italian). The beans were mixed with a tasty rusty colored sauce that had only the slightest hint of hot spicy (barely noticeable), and very small amounts of purple onions and green bell peppers. It had a perfect blend of all the ingredients. The meal was exceptional. If it hasn’t already won some sort of honor, it should. The chef of the Homestead is nothing short of prodigious and should be formally recognized. Instead of pulling this meal from them (like at the Granary), they anxiously offered it. It was like they knew I was coming, because they knew exactly what my belly would like tonight. Oh yes, the asparagus spears were cooked to a crispy, yet tender perfection. Job well done, Homestead!
Now…Today I passed the ERI Pre-RN Assessment exam. Also, I had an interview with FMH and tomorrow my mother is coming. We’re going to have our Easter Dinner and secular Easter celebration tomorrow. Tonight, we got egged. Which for we reserved, conservative Mormons mean that someone put a sign on our door that says we’ve been egged! In the yard, they strategically left candy filled plastic eggs. HOW FUN! Anything else? Oh yes…Monday I have to go back to school. I like school. I will pass, don’t worry. I’m telling myself that last thing…as a positive affirmation. I need those.
